Press Release

An illustration of the multi-wavelength observations proposed for SXDS

June 1, 2004

In addition to observations with Subaru, XMM-Newton and the VLA, the SXDS team is aggressively pursuing observations at other wavelengths. Forthcoming data include ultra-violet (0.1-0.3 microns), near-infrared (1-2.5 microns), mid and far-infrared (3-160 microns) and sub-millimeter (250 to 1000 microns) imaging and optical spectroscopy. A wide range of international faciliies will be engaged to obtain these data, including the Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX), Spitzer Space Telescope, the Balloon-borne Large-Aperture Sub-millimeter Telescope (BLAST), United Kingdom Infrared Telescope (UKIRT), James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) the Atacama Large Millimeter Array (ALMA), and possibly others. When SXDS is complete, it should provide a comprehensive description of the Universe's past and place strong constraints on the cosmological models that determine the ultimate fate of the Universe.
