SUBARU FACILITY MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN – ID# 17296

National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. Regular, Full-Time, RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the Subaru Telescope, National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), located in Hilo, Hawai'i. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.


MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $2,357/Mon.


DUTIES:
Maintains observatory facilities at Hilo and the Maunakea summit. Inspects, monitors, troubleshoots, maintains, services, improves & repairs fixtures, equipment, storage areas, communication equipment, & buildings of the base & summit facilities. Responds to facility emergencies, regardless of causes, including plumbing problems and snow/ice removal. Prepares & updates records, checklists, reports & logs on facility-related matters. Assists day crews in obtaining materials, supplies & contractors. Assists administration in the preparation of plans, contracts, negotiations & schedules on facility-related matters. Assists with on-site coordination of contractors' & day crew's activities.


PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/TRAINING:
Associate's Degree from an accredited community college.


EXPERIENCE:
One to three (1-3) years of experience in the maintenance of a large facility.


ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS:
Knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office applications. Knowledge of mechanical repairing techniques. Ability to repair maintenance equipment and machinery. Must possess a valid driver's license (and if use of personal vehicle on the job is required, must also have valid personal driver's insurance equivalent to Hawai'i's No-Fault Driver's Insurance) and maintain throughout the duration of employment. Must be able to drive a 4-wheel drive vehicle with manual transmission to the Maunakea summit safely.


PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds of equipment. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to work at 14,000 feet and pass a post offer high-altitude medical examination.


POLICY AND/OR REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS:
As a condition of employment, employee will be subject to all applicable RCUH policies and procedures and, as applicable, subject to University of Hawai'i's and/or business entity's policies and procedures. Violation of RCUH's, UH's, or business entity's policies and/or procedures or applicable State or Federal laws and/or regulations may lead to disciplinary action (including, but not limited to possible termination of employment, personal fines, civil and/or criminal penalties, etc.).


SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS:
Ability to comprehend, speak and/or understand Japanese. Ability to prepare/revise facility-related drawings by using CAD software. Knowledge of business practices of local contractors. Possess a CDL Class B License.
