What's Next after "Subaru Kids"?

April 20, 2011

The last story in the "Subaru Kids" series appeared on March 31st. We are pleased that the series stimulated so much interest in the universe and look forward to designing another website segment that will give people of all ages a chance to become more familiar with the Subaru Telescope and astronomy.

"Subaru Kids" began with the idea of introducing children to astronomy and the Subaru Telescope by taking them on a journey through the universe to celestial objects of various shapes and sizes. The thirty-six stories in the series informed readers about the Earth, the planets in our Solar System and the distant universe. They also focused in on the specifics of astronomical observation: its history, the technology that enables discoveries, and the significance of the Subaru Telescope's location on Mauna Kea on the island of Hawaii.

In each era of human history, people have used their technology to explore the far distant universe. Instruments of the current era allow us to observe a galaxy that is 12.9 billion light years away from Earth. In "Subaru Kids", we wanted to share the wonder of the universe so that people would be inspired to think, "I want to know about nature and the universe." Although the last story has already appeared, consider it as a stimulus for further learning. Please keep checking the Subaru website. The Science Results and Topics sections there contain a lot of interesting information about the findings from the Subaru Telescope as well as activities associated with the organization. We are preparing another website section to spark your interest and curiosity about nature and the universe. Stay tuned! Don't miss the next series.
