Dr. Tetsuharu Fuse was awarded "The Commendation for Science and Technology" prize (in the category of Public Understanding Promotion) by the Minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan. This prize commends him not only for his active contribution in promoting an understanding of scientific results from the use of the Subaru Telescope but also for encouraging education in astronomy. Through his global activities, he has shown the younger generation how they can achieve their dreams of astronomy in an international arena.

Dr. Fuse is an energetic astronomer who uses the Subaru Telescope, one of the largest optical-infrared telescopes in the world, to research objects in the Solar System. In addition, he is the Senior Public Relations Coordinator in the Public Information & Outreach Office at the Subaru Telescope. During his past 10 years at Subaru, he has focused his work on announcing the scientific results of the Subaru Telescope and providing information on the latest astronomical topics to the public through the Subaru web site, press releases, his books, stories in magazines, flyers, and so on.

Dr. Fuse said, “It is a really important role for front-line researchers and engineers to tell the real joy of science and technology to children who will support their advances in the future. I will actively continue working on this field more and more.”
