" Recent progress of photonic-crystal focal-plane coronagraph masks
for direct detection of exoplanets "
Naoshi Murakami
(Hokkaido University/JPL)
Photonic crystal, artificial periodic nanostructure of high and low
refractive indices, is an attracting device for manufacturing focal-plane
coronagraph masks. We have been developing an eight-octant phase
mask (8OPM) and vector vortex mask based on the photonic-crystal
technology. In this seminar, I will present laboratory demonstrations of
the photonic-crystal coronagraph masks aimed at direct imaging of Earth-like
exoplanets. In addition, I will also present our recent activities
for installing the 8OPM coronagraph into the Subaru Coronagraphic
Extreme AO (SCExAO).
Seminars are also held at JAC,
CFHT,
and IfA.
