Introduction

X-ray observations

The XMM-Newton observations of the SXDS comprise 400 ksec in 7 contiguous fields. The central field has a 100 ksec exposure and should be close to confusion-limited in the soft X-ray band, while the 6 flanking fields will receive 50 ksec each (see figure below). At the current time, the central field and 2 flanking fields have been completed, and a further flanking field has been partially completed.
