Instrument Discussion with SciOp Group

[2016/11/14]

Memo by Minowa-san

---------------------------
=== FOCAS ===
Lee:
ADC, Short wavelength cannot do with GMOS
HSC users tend to do follow-up with FOCAS, GMOS,...

Iwata:
Keck LRIS has better sensitivity in blue than FOCAS
Operation wise it is difficult to maintain FOCAS (or any Cs instruments) in the PFS era.

Aoki:
HSC requires spec follow up anyway.
Instrument exchange from PFS to HSC or vice versa takes time or and difficult
FOCAS is more convenient than PFS

Hattori:
How much longer will LRIS/GMOS survive?

Iwata:
There is no plan to decommission GMOS, LRIS as well.
KCWI is supposed to be available in 2017.
But Keck will continue to use LRIS after KCWI.

Minowa:
ULTIMATE does not necessary to decommission any Cs instrument.
ULTIMATE ASM and WFS can feed any Cs instrument.

=== MOIRCS ===
Aoki:
MOIRCS IFU.
There is a risk of failure after IFU implementation.

Iwata:
IFU will not destroy the existing focal plane unit,
but require careful consideration to decide if IFU is installed or not.
MOIRCS IFU is not so important for ULTIMATE.

===COMICS ===
Minowa:
COMICS can be substituted by MIMIZUKU at TAO

=== HDS ===
Pyo:
HDS is basic, but most important instrument.
Worth remaining ,,,,

=== IRCS ===
Kim:
Most of IRCS service proposal requests thermal infrared observation.

Aoki:
JWST can be competitor for IRCS long wavelength

=== General ===
We should divide the instrument plan for PFS era and ULTIMATE era.
