(Proposal ID) S17A-051 (PI) Sugai, Hajime (Proposal Title) Subaru Near-Field Exploration of Quasar Feedback (Abstract) This is a resubmission of the S16A proposal; we were awarded 3 nights, but got little science data due to a telescope trouble. Feedback from mass-accreting supermassive black holes (SMBHs) is now a standard ingredient in galaxy formation models. It is necessary for prohibiting overgrowth of galaxy masses and for establishing the observed SMBH-bulge correlations. In the past several years, we have demonstrated that powerful ionized gas winds are a ubiquitous feature in luminous obscured quasars at intermediate to high redshifts. Now as a step forward, we aim to explore the feedback processes in greater detail by looking at closer targets, with various diagnostic emission lines on sub- kiloparsec spatial scales. This will be an excellent benchmark for higher-z studies. We propose an IFU spectroscopy of 5 luminous obscured quasars at z < 0.15 with Subaru Kyoto3DII + AO188. We will observe spatially-resolved [O I], H alpha, [N II], and [S II] emission lines on sub-galactic and galaxy- wide scales (400 pc resolution and 14 kpc field-of-view) to explore spatial extents and kinematics of the neutral and ionized gas, as well as distributions of gas density and ionization sources, and examine the presence and effects of quasar feedback. This study will be further complemented with the coordinated SMA observations.
