(Proposal ID) S11B-052 (PI) Radovich, Mario (Proposal Title) A weak-lensing analysis of two new clusters discovered by the Planck survey (Abstract) We propose an imaging (griz) follow-up with SuprimeCAM, of two new clusters of galaxies discovered by the Planck survey through the Sunyaev-Zeldovich effect. There is evidence that clusters detected by this survey could belong to a population of massive clusters, less luminous and with more disturbed morphology than those usually traced by X-ray surveys. The proposed imaging observations are aimed at performing a weak lensing analysis of the clusters, to be done using a deep r-band image, both to reconstruct the projected mass distribution and derive the mass profile. Multi-band data (giz) are required to remove the galaxies from the foreground and cluster galaxies, which would dilute the lensing signal and bias the mass estimate. In addition, multi-color photometry will allow to separate between late and early-type cluster galaxies and derive their distribution in the cluster, as well as the mass/luminosity radial profile from the joint lensing and optical analysis.
