Evening procedure
Startup software
If there are any FALCON
software running, exit them completely out first, and then restart
everything. Start fresh every evening!
There are two ways of
starting up the FALCON. The only difference is to
choose what computer is used for providing the window service. The
software processes which should be started are same, regardless of the
choice of the window terminal.
- Log into KVM system to FOCAS OBCP. Type user name: FOCAS01,
password: FOCAS01 in a blue
KVM window on any KVM terminal. CDE
window of FOCAS OBCP will appearer.
- Log into focas OBCP with user name
"falcon" and password "***".
- On CDE windows, press FALCON
icon (FCS) on the bottom of the
display, or at upper right of the display. The FALCONMENU window will
appearer.
- If the V server is not running, press "MV". Then, press "Startup
All" at the top of the FALCONMENU. If MV was running, just press
"Startup ALL".
- Wait for a while (~1 min.) until
all the UI buttons are in green. Automatic "GET ALL STATUS" will be
made.
- Log into KVM system to OBCP. Type user name: OBCP01, password:
OBCP01 in a blue KVM window
on any KVM terminal.
- Log into OBCP with user name
"focas01" and password "***".
CDE window of a
computer named OBCP will appearer.
- Type "xhost +" at any
command prompt in any terminal. Then type
"telnet focas". Then type user
name "falcon" and password
"***" upon request.
- There is no FALCON icon (FCS) appeared in this case. So, type
"falconmenu.sh" in the above
terminal. The FALCONMENU window will
appearer.
- Following is the same as the case of FOCAS OBCP login.
Setup/precheck before starting observations
Check air
pressure
Check the
current air pressure in the MOS
detail tab screen on UI. Press "Check
MOS Air" button to read the current value. This should be around
650-700. 750 is still acceptable, but <650 is not good.
Initialize
MOS
After the slit exchange, set new MOS
slit names in the
MOS dialog (a pupup window of
MOS) according to the slit setting of the night.
Press green "MOS" button on the
spectrograph tab screen of UI
to see the MOS
dialog, and issue a "Init"
command. Wait ~5 min. to complete the
initialization.
Do CCD
initialization
Press "INIT"
button at CCD tab screen on UI, and check if MV/M3 initialization can
be made, by
looking at either the Messia Log screen, MV Log screen, or M3 Log
screen (all of them are other terminals).
Press "VCHECK" button at CCD
tab screen on UI, and check if there are any bad voltage supply, by
looking at either the Messia Log screen, MV Log screen, or M3 Log
screen (all of them are other terminals).
Do pre-check of the instrument, if neccessary.
Manually change/move
filter1/filter2/filter3/grism/z stage/shutter
back and forth a little (1 step, or 1sec, or 0.05mm) on the UI, and
check if each part moves as indicated.
Morning procedure
Initialize the MOS
When shutting down all
focas
softwares after all FOCAS nights in a run,
- Turn off the power in the
order of <CCD Analog Power> and <CCD Digital Power> on [CCD
Control] panel on UI. Always turn off the Analog first.
- Turn of the cooler power.
- Exit all falcon software by pressing "Exit Falcon" button on
the UI.
- Shutdown focas2.
- Send a "halt" command in
focas2 from a root user.
- Go to dome to turn off all local powers.
