Special Program for Hawai'i Residents to Begin in Early 2016

The Subaru Telescope partners with ‘Imiloa Astronomy Center and other observatories on Maunakea to offer Hawai‘i residents free guided tours of the summit facilities. This monthly community program, "Kama‘āina Observatory Experience," was announced in a speech by President Barack Obama at the White House Astronomy Night on October 19, 2015. Participants will see world-class telescopes and learn about the cultural and environmental importance of the mountain.
The Kama‘āina Observatory Experience will launch in early 2016. It is open to Hawai‘i residents at age 16 or older. Transportation to and from the summit area is provided. Registration is required and will be available via website:
