CEAO Postdoctoral Research Fellow

CEAO Postdoctoral RESEARCH fellow – ID# 28279. National Astronomical Observatory of Japan. Regular, Full-Time, Limited-Term (three years in duration), RCUH Non-Civil Service osition with the National Astronomical Observatory of Japan (NAOJ), Subaru Telescope, Coronagraphic Extreme-AO (CEAO) Project, located in Hilo, Hawaii.Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, and availability of funds. Minimum Monthly Salary: Commensurate with qualifications. Duties: Participate in the development and scientific use of the Subaru Coronagraphic Extreme-AO system and pursuit of independent astronomical research under the supervision of a staff astronomer. Minimum Qualifications:Education: Ph.D. Degree from an accredited college or university in Astronomy or closely related field.Experience:One to three (1-3) years of experience with astronomical instrumentation and optics. Abil/Know/Skills: Knowledge in astronomy, astronomical instrumentation and computer programming.Able to undertake independent program of astronomical research.Good written and oral communications skills.Must hold a valid driver’s license and be able to operate a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Physical/Medical Requirements: Must be able to work at 14,000 feet, and pass a high-altitude medical examination. Desirable Qualifications: Experience and achievements in high angular resolution/high contrast instrumentation related to Astronomy (adaptive optics, coronagraphy, interferometry).
