Talk Story Session with Mayor at 2:00 pm
After the opening ceremony, County of Hawai`i Mayor Billy Kenoi will share his time with middle school students.
The talk story session is a meaningful, serious dialogue between the mayor and students. Students from schools (Kamehemeha Schools, St. Joseph School, Hilo Intermediate School, Connections PCS) will ask the mayor questions. Some will be preselected by their science teachers as particularly articulate and interested.
The session will focus on the importance of studying math and science and how such studies increase career opportunities. There are economic benefits, ways to come back and contribute to the community, and global benefits (increasing science expertise).
Entertainment after 2:30 pm
Waiakea Intermediate School Ukulele Band (2:30 pm), Hilo High School Band (3:30 pm), and Hui Okinawa Kobudo Taiko Group (4:30 pm) will perform music for about 20 minutes. Between the performances, you can enjoy
